Description

From Fort to Citie

By the early 1620's, Jamestown had expanded beyond the walls of the fort. To increase immigration to the colony, "New Towne" was surveyed just east of the now old defensive structure. Lots were purchased to build homes and businesses, including a pottery and a gunsmith shop.

Ships from England brought new settlers seeking opportunity and the vessels also brought necessities as well as comforts to the New World.
