At noon on the 19th April of 1783 the cessation of hostilities was proclaimed at the New Windsor Cantonment above West Point which was the final campground of the Continental Army. After the proclamation was read at the door of the Temple building Reverend Gano, the Chaplin of the New York Brigade read a prayer to the assemblage which included General Washington. Commissioned by the Baptist Historical Preservation Society, artist Don Troiani has painted this historic and solemn moment with his usual dedication to accuracy.
